  • CHOCOLATE UPSIDE-DOWN CAKE

    3/4 cup white corn syrup
    1/2 cup brown sugar, firmly packed.
    1/4 cup butter or substitute
    2/3 cup chopped pecans
    1 package fudge cake mix (11-1/2 oz.)
    egg and water (as package directs)
    1/2 cup of semi-sweet chocolate bits
    1/4 tsp. salt

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a saucepan combine sugar, syrup, butter and salt. Bring to a boil, stirring until butter is melted. Remove from flame. Stir in nuts. Pour
    into 9 x 9 inch pan. Cool.

    Make cake by directions, adding egg and water. Sprinkle chocolate bits over nut mixture in baking pan. Pour batter
    over top.
    Bake 35 to 40 minutes and turn out immediately. Serve with
    whipped cream.
