Buttermilk Brownies

2 cups granulated sugar
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 sticks margarine or butter
4 tablespoons cocoa
1 cup cold water
1/2 cup buttermilk
2 eggs -- beaten
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 teaspoon salt

Stir together sugar & flour; set aside. Cook butter, cocoa & water in saucepan. Bring to a rapid boil. Pour over sugar and flour mixture. Beat 2 minutes with mixer, then add rest of ingredients. Beat with mixer 2 more minutes. Pour into large, well greased & floured cookie sheet or jelly roll pan. Bake at 350°F for 30 minutes.

Use chocolate icing to frost:

Bring to boil 1-1/3 cups granulated sugar, 6 tablespoons milk, 6 tablespoons margarine. Boil for 30 seconds. Remove from heat and add 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips. Beat until smooth. Cool slightly before frosting brownies.
