I posted some recipes for cats, dogs & horses at the recipe exchange but here's another for your friends' best friends:
BUCKWHEAT'S CHRISTMAS BISCUITS
1 env yeast
1/4 cup warm water (110-115°)
3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups whole wheat flour
1 cup rye flour
2 cups cracked wheat
1 cup corn meal
1/2 cup instant non-fat dry milk
4 tsp garlic salt
3-4 cups broth (can use canned)
1 egg beaten with 2 TBL water for glaze
Preheat oven to 300°. Sprinkle yeast over warm water & stir to dissolve; reserve. In a very large bowl, combine the next 7 ingredients. Add 2-3 cups of broth & mix in the yeast. Work it with your hands to form a stiff dough, adding more broth if needed. Turn the dough onto a floured board & roll it to about 1/4" thick. Cut with a bone-shaped cookie cutter. Place the bone on an ungreased cookie sheet, brush with the glaze & bake for about 45 minutes. Cool the biscuits on a wire rack well out of the dog's reach. Let harden overnight. Put a red bow around each one. Makes about 5 dozen.
