How 'bout a Never-Fail Pie Crust recipe? (Trust me, if I can make it
ANYONE can make it!)
5 c. flour
2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking powder
2 c. LARD (ONLY-DON'T USE CRISCO etc...)
Mix together & then add following:
1 egg (slightly beaten)
2 T. vinegar
Enough cold water mixed with these to make 1 cup.
Add to flour mix & mix together very well! Ready to roll into pie crusts! Should make
about 5-9" single pie crusts.
Never Fail Meringue:
9 egg whites
18 T. sugar
3 T. cornstarch
1 c. water
1/2 tsp. vanilla
Set aside egg whites. Mix next 4 ingred. over med-low heat stirring constantly, till thick
& kinda opaque looking. Remove from heat & add vanilla. Let this cool, then start
beating egg whites & gradually add cooled cornstarch mixture & beat until stiff
peaks form. Put on top of pies & lightly brown in 400* oven for 5-10 minutes, or till
brown.
DO NOT try to double this recipe, it won't work! Trust me! This should make enough
meringue for 2-3 pies. :) kbb
