Subject: Help for restoring WIN95 files if you've gone to WIN 98
A couple of weeks ago, I posted a message looking for help on this subject.
I eventually, after some hacking, no help from Microsoft and a little bit of
ingenuity found a solution. YOU CAN RESTORE OLD WIN95 BCAKED UP FILES
WITHOUT A BIG HASSLE!!!
Here is the solution......
1. Obtain the latest copy of WINZIP...the one that unzips cab files.
2. Go to (in the win95 upgrade CD version) Cab #4
3. Unzip to a directory (you created) ie c:\oldrestore\.......
the following files.....
a. backup.cfg
b. backup.cfg
c. backup.exe
d. chidai.dll
e. chikdi.dll
f. qic177.vxd
When you have copied these into your subdirectory, open it with windows
explorer....next double click backup.exe and follow all the directions from
there.
This should work is restoring any old files which were backed up with WIN95
and span multiple disks.
I passed this info onto microsoft but I expect Uncle Bill and company just
archived it. Out of sight.....out of mind.
Also, once you restore the old files, no problem, back them up with WINZIP
or something, and you will never have a problem in the future.
All the best!!!
