Cornbread

3/4 c Yellow cornmeal
1 c Flour
1/3 c Sugar
1 tsp Salt
3 tsp Baking powder
1 Egg beaten
1 c Milk
2 Tbsp Shortening, melted

Grease a square baking pan and preheat the oven at 400F. Mix cornmeal, milk, melted shortening and egg together.
In another bowl mix the flour, sugar, salt and baking powder. Add the liquid to the dry ingredients and mix well.
Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake until risen and golden brown on top. About 20 -25 minutes
Cut into squares to serve.
