Back From The "Saouth"
I was only in Tennessee for a few days but I could easily get hooked on that southern drawl :p
In between going to Friday night's and Saturday night's races, we spent time with DH's brother and family...eight little grandchildren each with an accent thicker than fog :D
The races were wonderful...I could easily become a *race-car groopie* (if I had the time and $$$)...
I missed so much while I was gone...Jayjay's doc, A.J.'s modeling, Kimmie's anniversary, Punkinhead's ???...and all the other goings-on...
Anyway, I'm glad to be back in the Tree House, but now with school starting, I won't be able to check in 'til afternoon :(

Re: Back From The "Saouth"
Glad you had a nice trip and surprised you could understand a word they said. They also are big on boat racing down there..except in Kentucky where they sit on rats and race them. When we were at Kim's house we had to hire a translator because none of us could understand them.

Re: Back From The "Saouth"
I thought about you and what an exciting race you were getting to see. We are Bill Elliott fans, but I like Jeff Gordon too. DH doesn't. As for the soooouuuthern drawl, I don't have one. Ask Dottie or Donna. LOL!!!

Re: Back From The "Saouth"
Marty and Donna are both competing for the part of Miss Scarlet in the remake of Gone With The Wind. Marty keeps calling me up and saying, "Ah sweah ah shall nivver bay pooh agin!!" Donna is going to have to work hard to get the part now.

Sure sounds like you had fun.
I've always had a soft spot in my heart for a southern accent.

Re: Back From The "Saouth"
I don't have much time here, I just got on to check and see whats happening. Got a cake in the oven and in the middle of washing bed sheets and blankets. But I just want to say, that PH forgot to tell me that there was a contest going on!!! :lol So here is my entry!!
Miss Spunky, bless yore little pea pickin heart!! That was such a kind thing for you to say! And in the imortal words of Blanche, in the play, "A Streetcar Named Desire", I always depended on the kindness of strangers!!!!!! And I have nevah, and i do mean nevah (Thats the way these Memphis and Mississippi folks say never :lol ) been disapointed!

Ohhh, I can just hear the southern belles with their best southern drawls :lol
Now Punkinhead, it's up to you to choose Miss Scarlet :b
There are so many "anti-Jeff Gordon" peeps, and since I usually go for the underdog, I have to say I wasn't disappointed that he won Saturday's race...(whispering this because some of my friends are anti Jeff :o )

Re: Back From The "Saouth"
And my teacher told me there was no such word as "aint"!! I remember when my mil moved up from Alabama and wanted a stewer and I thought she wanted a female chicken to boil. It turned out to be a pot.

Re: Back From The "Saouth"
I know some of ya'll have probably heerd this afore, but when DH & I were a 'courtin' he once said "I didn't 'tip' ya!" & looked at him might squirrly, cuz I knew I was still standin upright & hadn't been tipped over! :lol (he meant he hadn't touched me~in Northern speak) Course 'touched' can have a whole new meaning down here too! :lol Then there was the time someone came to the station & asked for a 'poke'! I was 'bout ready to give them a 'hurts donut' when I finally figured out what they meant. You also put 'tags' on your vehicles down south instead of license plates, & you go to the bathroom on a 'commode' instead of a toilet! :eek & Lest anyone think I'm making fun of Southerners & thier language~nothing could be further from the truth! I luvs the Southern speak & think it is one of the things that makes this place so 'unique'. & Miz Punkinhaid, I beleeves ah'll start shootin that thar movie after I lose a few pounds! :lol (AKA: the 5th day of never!) ;) kbb

Re: Back From The "Saouth"
One of the hardest things for Doc to understand was getting directions. It's not that complicated really. When folks tell you to go UP the road they mean north, when they say go DOWN the road, they mean south. Now when you are told," go over yonder, turn ta the left and it's up the road a fer piece" it means you might want to pack a lunch. :lol

Re: Back From The "Saouth"
The area where KBB, Liz-GA and I come from, Up the Road is North, Down the Road is South and CattyCornered is the corner you can't get to without passing another corner unless you jaywalk. Used to be you could do that but now you have to take the long way around. And 5 miles "as a crow flies" can be 40 miles driving on the roads. We didn't call a paper sack a poke though. We sort of have some southern ways and some northern ways about us. Probably because most of the people moved up from southern Indiana and Kentucky. I don't have a problem understanding what they're saying. It's understanding what they mean by what they say. Montgomery Wards was always Monkey Wards. I don't think they're even in business anymore.

Re: Back From The "Saouth"
How did I miss the southern belle contest? My mother once told me I could put more syllables in the word "cat" than anybody.
